| Description: | RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Organizing Director and Organizing Coordinator(s) the Lead Organizer implements the organizing plan of the Local Union. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: directing organizing staff and member organizers on campaigns; providing input to the Organizing Director and Organizing Coordinator(s) in the evaluation of organizing staff; evaluating potential organizing targets; initiating direct contact with organized workers; developing leadership and structure of organizing campaigns; and overseeing the conduct of organizing drives and representation elections. This is not a 9 to 5 job - long and varied hours, with early morning, evening, weekend work and travel, including overnight stays. SKILLS, APTITUDE AND COMMITMENT: • A lead organizer should have run and won a campaign from beginning to end. • Ability to manage the work of up to 5 staff organizers. • Ability to build a team, to communicate clearly and persuasively verbally and in writing. • An understanding of the labor movement and a commitment to improving conditions for working people is essential. EXPERIENCE: Must have at least two (2) years of experience in organizing and leading staff. REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid California driver’s license, auto insurance, and an automobile for business use. Ability to speak Spanish or other language spoken by large groups of workers is highly valued.
