Lead Organizer (Nova Scotia)

Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 2 represents 13,000 workers in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Nova Scotia.  SEIU Local 2 members work in diverse sectors, including property services, hospitality, community services, logistics and manufacturing.

SEIU Local 2 is looking for a Lead Organizer to anchor its new organizing program in Nova Scotia.
Description:
  • Implement the local's regional organizing plan
  • Oversee and lead a team of field staff and member-organizers
  • Identify, develop and activate worker leaders
  • Conduct house and workplace visits
  • Mobilize workers and community allies for actions and meetings
  • Conduct and win representation votes
  • Maintain accurate worksite (building and worker) information, track worker assignments
  • Work with research, political and communication specialists to implement corporate leverage campaigns

Qualifications:
  • Previous community and/or labour organizing experience required
  • Must have valid Driver's license and reliable car
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours
  • Experience and knowledge of various computer programs is a plus
  • Ability to speak a second language is a plus

Compensation: Based on experience.
