We are currently searching for a Senior Collective Bargaining and Employer Relations Specialist. The role of the Senior Collective Bargaining & Employer Relations Specialist is to work as part of a dynamic team within the Member Programs and Participation Department of SEIU Healthcare 775NW, reporting to the Collective Bargaining and Employer Relations Manager. |

| Description: | Duties and Responsibilities Collective Bargaining • Negotiate union contracts • Recruit and develop member leaders to participate on the contract negotiations team • Coordinate contract negotiation and ratification campaigns Labor Management & Culture Change • Participate in the coordination and facilitation of a dynamic and growing industry-wide Labor Management Committee program charged with enhancing communication and culture change in the long term care industry • Engage in other areas of Employer Relations as assigned • Recruit and develop member leaders to participate in the Labor Management Committee process Member Support & Dispute Resolution • Manage the union's workplace dispute resolution process • Support other departments and teams of the union as needed and work with members and leaders to develop leadership skills needed within the scope of these programs • Recruit and develop member leaders to serve as member Advocates in Nursing Homes and Home Care Agencies Additional Responsibilities • Senior analysts help provide leadership on the organization’s strategic plan within the team, and assist with staff development in collaboration with the department and organization leadership. • Assignments to political, electoral and growth mobilization as required by the organization • Other duties as assigned Scope and Nature of Supervision A Collective Bargaining & Employer Relations Specialist must be able to organize his or her time, and develop and carry out plans with minimal supervision. S/he must also be able to receive direction from and work in coordination with his or her immediate supervisor, other team members, and other union staff. A Senior Specialist works independently and provides leadership within the team and department. Other Expectations Collective Bargaining & Employer Relations Specialists are expected to lead by example, and all SEIU Healthcare 775NW staff are expected to respect the processes of the organization. A Collective Bargaining & Employer Relations Specialist will be required to work long and irregular hours, and to work on weekends and holidays when necessary. Experience with the following types of employers is highly significant: labor unions, progressive issue advocacy organizations, community organizations, political campaigns and elected officials. | Qualifications: | Three years experience in relevant labor relations skills, including experience in bargaining, labor-management joint work, and representational duties including grievance resolution, and an understanding of unfair labor practices. Personal commitment to the mission and goals of SEIU Healthcare 775NW (visit www.seiu775.org for more information). A driver's license, a car, and automobile insurance. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Competent computer use with the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to utilize databases and to learn to use the organization’s proprietary database. Willingness to work long, irregular hours, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to travel. Strong personal planning and time management skills and ability to work with people from other cultures and backgrounds are also necessary skills. In addition, the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment are considered key components to achieving organizer performance standards. |
| Preferences: | Experience with the following types of employers is highly significant: labor unions, progressive issue advocacy organizations, community organizations, political campaigns and elected officials. Women and persons of color are strongly encouraged to apply for specialist positions. Experience with Labor Management Committees or similar joint Employer/Union organizations, mediation, arbitration, and an understanding of the long term care industry are all desirable. Fluency in a second language is also highly desirable. |
| Compensation: | Salary and benefits are set by collectively bargained contract. Salary currently ranges from the $50K’s to the $60K’s for Senior level Organizers. Benefits include fully employer-paid family health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, a generous leave package, car allowance, fully employer-paid pension (defined benefit plan), and an optional 401(K) plan, and other benefits outlined in the policies of SEIU Healthcare 775NW and the staff union contract. |
