Earlier this year, 32BJ SEIU endorsed Chris Coons for Senate, citing his strong record fighting for working families as New Castle's County Executive.
As New Castle County Council President, Coons voted in favor of prevailing wages on county funded projects and has shown his commitment to continue working with labor to spur economic recovery and create good jobs in Delaware and nationally.
Tonight, Wayne Mac Maniman, SEIU 32BJ's Mid-Atlantic District Director, issued the following statement on Chris Coons victory in the US Senate race in Delaware:
"The janitors and security officers who keep Wilmington's buildings clean and secure are proud to stand with Senator-elect Chris Coons on this victory night. We're counting on him to ensure our tax dollars go toward creating the good jobs we need to rebuild our economy in Delaware."
32BJ SEIU, the largest property service union in the country, in collaboration with AFL-CIO Labor 2010, launched a first-time-in-the-first-state voter outreach drive in support of Chris Coons' run for U.S. Senate and the campaigns of other endorsed candidates in Delaware.
Over the last several weeks, 32BJ member volunteers joined their AFL-CIO brothers and sisters to contact thousands of voters in Wilmington to speak about candidates who will improve the state's economy.
With more than 120,000 members, including Delaware, 32BJ is the fastest growing union the country. Last year 32BJ successfully organized nearly 800 office cleaners in Wilmington and New Castle County, winning a historic area-wide contract with wage increases, health insurance, paid vacation and other benefits.
