SEIU nurses Roberto Blanco, Vicki Gonzalez, and Cathy Glasson are featured along with New York Times contributor Theresa Brown, RN in Healthcare on the Frontlines, a new healthcare podcast SEIU launched Friday.
In this first episode, "Come Hell or High Water: Nursing in America," Blanco, an RN from Jackson Memorial Hospital, talks about his experience volunteering in Puerto Rico post-hurricanes, while Gonzalez, Glasson and Brown discuss the challenges of nursing, and how union nurses are out front, advocating for their patients and communities.
“Most nurses and workers want to have a union,” says Glasson, the President of Local 199 and current Gubernatorial candidate in Iowa. “They understand we can improve our working conditions, wages and benefits, but we can also have a voice in the political arena through that collective mechanism.”
