The Nurse Alliance of SEIU: Of, By, and For Nurses

The Nurse Alliance of SEIU is made up of more than 84,000 registered nurses in 23 states working together to raise standards for their profession and patient care.   Because the Nurse Alliance of SEIU is part of SEIU – the nation’s largest health care union – nurses are working with more than 900,000 health care workers to truly change the face of health care.

Nurse Alliance of SEIU contracts are unique because nurses identify the problems they face in providing quality care and tailor them to meet the needs of nurses and their patients. Through the national organization, nurses have a network for sharing information through committees to address the specific issues we face at work, like the Workplace Quality Committee and the Health and Safety Committee.

Of, by and for nurses, means that nurses are in charge, nurses make the decisions, and nurses are working together across the country to reach out and engage other nurses in their work to improve quality patient care.

SEIU nurses at each health care facility are part of our own local unions and make our own decisions. But we also benefit from automatically becoming part of the national Nurse Alliance of SEIU, which helps nurses speak with a strong, united voice in today's rapidly changing health care industry.

Working Together Works

Preparing for Lobby DaySEIU nurses all across America have discovered that by working together we can help create a health care system that brings out the best in everyone.

That's why we're asking all nurses to become part of SEIU– so our voice can grow stronger and we can do even more to help people get well.

Together, we can stand up for a system that gives us the time and encouragement to provide the kind of professional, quality health care our patients deserve.

Jenae Knapp, RN "Health care is becoming more of a business every day. That's why we need to stand together as nurses. We're winning improvements on issues like staffing so we have more time to take care of each of our patients."  --Jenae Knapp, RN

"As members of SEIU, the nurses in our hospital are on a more equal basis with the administration when it comes to making decisions that affect our job and the quality of care."  --Becky Pottorff-Leaven, RN Becky Pottorff-Leaven
