John Geagan Scholarships

en espanolSEIU is proud to award two scholarships annually to SEIU members, their children and local staff who want to pursue a college degree in labor studies. The John Geagan Scholarship is in honor of SEIU's long time organizing director during the 1970s and 1980s. The scholarship can be used in any labor studies program where college credit is awarded. This includes four-year and two-year institutions, labor studies centers, certificate and online programs—as long as college credit will be earned toward a bachelor's or associate's degree in labor studies.

While the John Geagan Scholarship is open to SEIU members or their children or SEIU local union staff, priority is given to those applicants who are not served by traditional education institution—typically adults who have been in the workforce and have decided to go, or return, to college. This scholarship allows students to pursue a degree while continuing to work.
