In Michigan, SEIU Local 517M members joined with the Saginaw School Board, City Council, school superintendent, and neighborhood task forces to support the Committee for Quality Schools campaign.
Voters approved the related bond measure, which brought $70 million in funding to construct new schools and remodel existing facilities.
"Our SEIU membership knew the importance of improving and renovating our older school buildings in order to provide for our kids a first-class upgrade to the 21st century. As an SEIU leader and a parent, I knew it was important to knock on the doors of our community with my SEIU members and Saginaw schools administrators. Everyone that worked on the Quality Schools Campaign had the same vision and perseverance and we were successful."
