SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger responds to Governor Palin's comments on conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt's show
crediting "good union jobs" for her healthcare and saying her own
family had to choose between "paying out of pocket for catastrophic
coverage or just crossing our fingers, hoping that nobody would get
hurt, nobody would get sick."
"Working families haven't heard a
single solution from Governor Palin or Senator McCain to protect those
good union jobs or win healthcare for the millions of Americans who
still have to cross their fingers and hope their families don't get
sick because they can't afford healthcare.
"In fact, John McCain wants to
dismantle the employer-based healthcare that Governor Palin and her
family benefited from altogether and force families to buy expensive
coverage on their own.
"20 million additional American's
could lose their coverage under McCain. And his $5,000 tax credit would
do little to help families pay for coverage that averages $12,000 a
year.
"Our families need to hear more than
nostalgia and stories--Governor Palin should stand behind her words and
tell her running mate to release a healthcare plan that provides
affordable healthcare to all Americans."
