This week, we're celebrating. SEIU members, local and International staff across the country knocked on doors and called voters to help get out the vote and move millions of Americans to the polls to bring home victory for Barack Obama.
We deserve to celebrate. But while we celebrate, millions of Americans still can't afford the most basic, life-saving healthcare for themselves and their families.
We know that fixing healthcare was one of the top three most important issues to voters. We also know that millions of those voters were our own friends, neighbors and family members.
We're asking people to put health care on the map by adding their voice. This heartbreaking, conscience-shocking story from the map reflects the lives of millions of Americans who cannot afford health insurance:
From Terry in Salt Lake City, Utah:
I have been told that there is a possibility that I may have stage 4 cancer. But I can't afford the bone scan and I don't have health insurance. According to my doctor, "If I don't die in 5 months, I'll know that I didn't have cancer. Otherwise, there's my answer." It's going to be a long 5 months for me, my new husband, my daughters and my granddaughter.
Together, we'll all work with President-Elect Barack Obama for real healthcare reform. We need change.
Will you join us in reaching out to all those people who voted for real change and ask them to keep health care on the map in 2009?
