For the last few months, National Public Radio (NPR) tracked how scores of independent groups, labor unions, and new political organizations provided unprecedented financial support to help elect their candidates of choice.

According to the NPR, "The biggest player among these groups was the Service Employees International Union, and sometimes it seemed to reach everywhere in the liberal establishment."
