Every year, the Gallup Poll releases their Honesty and Ethics survey of various professions. This year's results are in, and for the seventh year in a row, nurses are ranked number one on the list.

A whopping 84% percent of Americans say that nurses' "honesty and ethical standards are either 'high' or 'very high."

It's a reminder of how our ideas should be valued as we work with our new president to find solutions to our nation's health care crisis.

Already, discussions have begun, including a growing health care debate at Change.gov, the Obama transition team's website. You and I know that for any health care initiative to truly succeed, nurses need to be included - and the Gallup poll proves it.

Now's the perfect time to put our credibility to use. Each of us needs to lend our much-needed caregiver expertise to the discussion by clicking here:

Since the discussion was launched, over 6,500 comments have been left - and just the other day, the transition team's health policy team leader, former Senator Tom Daschle directly responded to these comments via a web video.

Watch his video:

It's a promising sign of a truly open government that will listen to its citizens.

Last August, Healthcare United, a project of SEIU, asked its members of nurses, doctors and caregivers to submit their own "Prescriptions for Change." After over 4,000 recommendations were collected, we delivered them to Senator Daschle at the Democratic National Convention. Take a look:

Now that we know they're listening, make sure that you add your critical nurse perspective to the mix. When you leave your comment, don't forget to let people know what you do for a living.
