Description: RESPONSIBILITIES: With close supervision by the Lead Organizer, Campaign Coordinator(s) and Organizing Director the Organizer in Training (OIT) will complete a formal and informal training program, including extensive on-the-job training, designed to develop the skills necessary to advance into the Organizer classification. During this time the OIT will be assigned to campaigns whereby they will learn and be evaluated on a core group of skills and standards necessary to operate independently as an organizer. This is not a 9 to 5 job - long and varied hours, with early morning, evening, weekend work and travel, including overnight stays. May also include relocation. SKILLS, APTITUDE AND COMMITMENT: We need people who have high energy, excellent communication skills, persistence, the ability to learn quickly and work long, irregular hours, with a dedication to social and economic justice. The ideal candidate is someone who is able to work independently, as well as, part of a team. EXPERIENCE: This entry level position is open to any newly recruited staff that has less than one (1) year full time paid experience doing worker external organizing. ADVANCING TO ORGANIZER: Organizers in Training will receive a written evaluation of their work six (6) months and twelve (12) months. No employee may serve more than one year as an Organizer in Training. An employee determined to be unable to meet Local 1021’s expectations or standards for advancing to Organizer, will be released without challenge. REQUIREMENTS: Must possess valid California drivers license, auto insurance that covers business use. The ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and the ability to speak other languages spoken by large group of workers is highly valued.
