Last week, President Obama announced SEIU's Michael Kerr as his nominee for Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management (OASAM) with the Department of Labor.
Kerr, who currently oversees finance and administration at SEIU as an Assistant to the Secretary-Treasurer, has served under two presidents.
During the Carter Administration, he worked in the Office of Consumer Affairs and HHS. He spent eight years at the Department of Labor under the Clinton Administration, first in the Office of Secretary Reich, then for Secretary Herman in the Employment Standards Administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Workers Compensation Programs, Deputy Assistant Secretary and as Administrator of Wage and Hour.
Earlier in his career, Kerr did political and legislative work for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). In 2005 he was elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
