Summary:

The SEIU Illinois State Council represents a diverse membership of 180,000 healthcare workers, public employees, security guards, janitors, laundry workers and other service oriented workers. The SEIU Illinois State Council is the largest labor union in the state and prides itself on running large-scale professional political programs.

Description:

The SEIU Illinois State Council is seeking a Chicago Political Director who has the experience to implement various aspects of the union’s political program. This person will be supervised by the State Council’s Statewide Political Director. The duties of the Chicago Political Director include:

  1. Work with the Statewide Political Director in designing and implementing political program for the union.
  2. Build programs aimed at building internal capacity of member involvement around political and lobbying
  3. campaigns.
  4. Implement full field campaigns for the union including but not limited to – door-to-door program, phone
  5. program and GOTV program.
  6. Run the union’s predictive dialer telephone system – including both live and auto calls.
  7. Help coordinate logistics and implementation of political program with the local union affiliates.
  8. Supervise, train and manage staff and members to meet goals of the political program.
  9. Write persuasion and GOTV scripts for members and the general public.
  10. Maintain and update voter file and membership database.
  11. Assist in the unions Political Action Committee (PAC) disclosure form.
  12. Interface with political campaigns and elected officials.
  13. Perform additional duties as related to the unions’ political capacity as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • At least 3-5 years experience designing and implementing political campaigns and managing staff
  • Experience in union or community organizing preferred
  • In-depth knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Access, Excel and Word
  • Work effectively with members and staff from diverse ethnic, social and economic groups
  • Establish and uphold organization priorities and standards
  • Strong multi-tasking capacity and attention to detail while working with deadlines
  • Applicant must have dependable car and willingness to work long and extended hours including nights and weekends.
Compensation:
