"We need to take action now to ensure that the millions of jobs the President and Congress are working to create will be good jobs, with living wages, benefits like affordable, quality health care, and the right for workers to have a voice in the services they provide," said SEIU President Andy Stern in a statement on Friday, urging Congress to pass the Employee Free Choice Act as part of President Obama's job creation plan.
The Department of Labor announced on Friday that the unemployment rate has hit a 25-year high in April, rising to 8.9 percent (from 8.5. percent in March). With this news came President Obama's announcement about new government help for the unemployed. Under Obama's initiative, unemployed workers receiving unemployment benefits may qualify for a special hand in paying for education and training.
