This week Senator Grassley and the Senate Finance Committee plan to complete legislation that will retool our health care system. We are very concerned that this legislation will leave out key principles of reform like creating a public health insurance option, setting employer responsibility standards and supplying subsidies for low income families who cannot afford health insurance on their own. Senator Grassley urgently needs to hear your voice on this issue. He grossly underestimates how health care costs are burdening real Iowans. Just last week, a man in Waukon, Iowa shared his family's personal struggle with skyrocketing insurance costs. Senator Grassley's response to this man was to, "go work for the federal government," if he wanted affordable insurance like the Senator enjoys as a member of Congress. • Affordability: Struggling families should not fall through the cracks especially when they're often the ones who need coverage the most. Americans at or just slightly above the poverty line need greater access to public insurance plans, and for those who don't qualify, more subsidized help should be made available.

• Employer Responsibility: I believe that individuals, government and businesses should all share in the responsibility of financing health insurance. Please consider holding large employers accountable if they refuse to offer health benefits to their workers.

• Public Option: An Iowa poll shows that 56% of us support a public health insurance option. I'm one of them. Why aren't you listening to Iowans on this issue? We're counting on you to bring home this compromise.
