On Tuesday, September 22, Health Care for America Now partners across the country will host "Big Insurance: Sick of It" events to continue to focus on the insurance industry as both the reason for reform and the major roadblock.
RSVP and join us in telling Anthem to STOP denying our care here
In August of 2008 in New Hampshire, HCAN held a press conference in city plaza in Manchester about insurance company profits, claims denials, and other grievances. Participants were then bussed over to Anthem's headquarters in Manchester, where they demanded a meeting with Anthem's CEO. They were able to meet with Christopher Dugan, who is the Community Relations Director. They made several asks, including "How many claims did your company deny to make a $98 million profit in 2007?" They were promised answers within a week, yet here we are, a year later, and still no answers.
RSVP to our Event September 22nd
On September 22nd, we will go back to Anthem's headquarters stronger and louder to not only get answers, but to make the following demands:
Stop Denying Our Care!
We are here to demand that Anthem Insurance agree to the following. Effective immediately:
1. Anthem will not stand between a doctor and a patient when it comes to deciding what care that patient needs. No one at Anthem will substitute their judgment for the judgment of the patient's physician in deciding if care is medically necessary.
2. Anthem will not deny or drop coverage based on a pre-existing medical condition.
3. Anthem will terminate any policy or incentive that rewards employees financially or otherwise for denying care and rejecting claims.
4. Anthem will not use any resources - including funds, employees, and facilities -- to oppose any aspect of the health reform proposals supported by President Obama and being considered by members of the United States Congress.
Activists are encourage to bring their own signs. The press conference will feature Laura Mick, NH for Health Care activist who was a part of the original group who went to Anthem last year.
After the press conference, we will walk into Anthem and request a meeting with the CEO again, expecting that we will likely get the Director of Community Relations. Participants who spoke at the press conference will be asked to relay their stories again to the Anthem staffer, and the list of demands above will be presented. We will also remind them that we never got a response to our list of questions last year.
Join us and demand that Anthem STOP denying our care today!
