Description: The Deputy Director for Membership Strength Development will be tasked to identify and assemble resources to assist in the leadership development needs of the union. The primary responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Manage the design, components, development and implementation of the union-wide Member Strength program.
  • Ensure that through other departments SEIU members have increased and meaningful involvement in the primary goals of the union: organizing, bargaining and politics.
  • Staff the Innovation Leaders Group (ILG) comprised of local staff and Member Strength Directors. Manage the support and training of the ILG. Responsible for coordination of design of ILG meetings.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Innovation Center of the Member Strength program to create and evaluate pilots and serve as the center of organizational learning around the program.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited institution that includes coursework in communications related subjects, 7 years of supervisory experience demonstrating progressively greater responsibility in a union, political or issue-driven environment; 3 years of experience in developing, implementing and evaluating programs; organizing in a union, political, or community context.

Equivalencies: In addition to the overall experience as listed above, graduation from an accredited four-year college or university AND 3 additional years of experience in communications may substitute in the absence of an advanced degree.
