SEIU activists joined with Health Care for America Now! (HCAN) in challenging Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on his recent claim that he "has not met one" person from Kentucky in support of health insurance reform. Watch the video of Sen. McConnell's remarks:
The petition reads:
Mitch McConnell, I'm from Kentucky and I support health reform that gives us quality, affordable health care with the choice of a public health insurance option.By signing on, Kentucky voters are helping give Sen. McConnell a much-needed reality check. We thoroughly enjoyed reading some of the incredulous responses by Kentuckians upon hearing of Sen. McConnell's remarks, and wanted to share some of our favorites with you:
Mary B. in Louisville, KY:
Sen. McConnell, I don't know how you can say that. I, personally, delivered a written request to your office in the Federal Building on Broadway asking you to vote for health care reform and a public option. Did you just ignore me? Was it thrown away? Why do you say no one in Kentucky wants reform? That is simply a lie. I know many Kentuckians who want reform AND a public option. I am offended. If you are using the word "met" specifically, come meet me- I'd like to give you my thoughts.
Anthony in Benton, KY:
Mr. McConnell, you surely jest, sir. I have written you several times asking you to stop trying to block the health care plan. I am asking you to please work with the President, and put your support behind him to pass the health care reform! Stop working for Humana and the big Medical companies, and help us little guys for a change!
Nurse in Louisville, KY:
I have corresponded with you and John Yarmuth several times. As an RN and a Certified Diabetes Educator and a hospital employee, I am very passionate about the health care reform and the importance and the necessity of these changes.
Marie in Louisville, KY:
Please, could you tell me what kind of survey you took in Kentucky? I live, like you, in the Highlands in Louisville and frankly I have not met anyone yet who is opposed to the bill.
