In the wake of the election in Massachusetts, congressional leaders are weighing how to fulfill their commitment to fix our broken health care system. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has spent millions -- and used millions from the nation's biggest health insurers -- to kill health care reform. But health care reform is not all the only issue Chamber lobbied against in 2009.
The corporate front group shelled out a record-breaking $144.4 million on lobbying this year against legislation that would help working people in America, including
- financial regulation,
- H1N1 sick leave
- climate change, and of course,
- the Employee Free Choice Act.
Today, SEIU is joining organizations including MoveOn.org, Organizing for America (OFA), Health Care for America Now (HCAN), Democracy for America (DFA) and ColorofChange.org to rally outside of the Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC to remind members of Congress that no matter how much money is on the side of big insurance, corporate front groups and corporations, we have the people.
