Go on Record

Next week, 3,849,376 people could be on their way to ending an abusive relationship with big banks.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles City Councilmember Richard Alarcon is moving a bill that would set high standards for banks to meet in order to do business with the city of L.A. The message to bankers is clear: if your bank continues to ravage our communities, you don't get a dime of taxpayers' money. Period.

Los Angeles is the second biggest city in the country. If this bill passes, it will send a message so loud, they'll hear it all the way on Wall Street.

Make sure this bill passes. Write your testimony to the Council: http://action.seiu.org/movela

On a typical issue, the Council might hear from one or two experts and a handful of citizens testifying for or against a bill. We need to show them this is not a typical issue. We need to show them America is watching - that we're calling on them to start a national movement to turn the tables on Wall Street.

Add your support for the bill to the Council's official record: http://action.seiu.org/movela

The premise of the bill is simple. If you are a bank that continues to foreclose on struggling families, we will not do business with you. if you continue to deny loans to small businesses, we will not do business with you. If you continue to force budget cuts to the critical services we depend on, we will not do business with you.

Basically, if you continue to hurt taxpayers, don't expect the taxpayers you hurt to foot the bill.

This could be the beginning of something big. Let's get moving: http://action.seiu.org/movela
