PCAs and Consumers Answer the Call and Save VA Home Care from Elimination

Last week, Governor McDonnell proposed the unthinkable. The Governor planned to eliminate consumer-directed home care in the Commonwealth. Forever. Under McDonnell's reckless plan, thousands of Virginians would've lost their current PCA services, and 14,000 Virginia home care providers would've lost their jobs.

Thankfully, I've got some good news to share. On Sunday, both the Virginia state House and Senate announced that they rejected the Governor's proposal to eliminate consumer-directed home care.

How did we win? Because of folks who heard our call and took action. State offices received hundreds of calls and emails over the past week from people voicing outrage over Gov. McDonnell's proposal. VAPCA members spoke out, and explained why consumer-directed home care is good for Virginia families and tax-payers.

Our work is just beginning. Elected leaders are still considering whether or not to cut PCA pay and hours, and the services consumers receive. Help us grow our campaign to support home care services in the Commonwealth. Do you know a fellow PCA or home care client who might like to get involved? P.S. The members of the state legislature we contacted last week fought hard to protect home care services. We have more fights ahead, so it's important to thank our advocates in Richmond. If you'd like to send a thank-you note, click here.
