I was really moved when I saw this gesture of (tech-savvy) solidarity between janitors who live and work practically across the globe from one another.
Last week, SEIU sent a video message of support to janitors in the Netherlands who plan to strike at Amsterdam's busy Schiphol International Airport beginning March 8. The Dutch cleaners reciprocated in kind, making their own solidarity video for the SEIU janitors in Minnesota. Watch:
Janitors in the Netherlands have been garnering press--and real progress--with widespread strike actions aimed at winning longer hours. One thousand janitors who clean trains and train stations filled the streets in Utrecht in protest in mid-February. The cleaners are members of FNV Bondgenoten (a sister union of SEIU), and recently launched the Schoon Genoeg ("Clean Enough") campaign. "Actions in the cleaning sector [have] spread like wildfire over the country," reports one major Dutch news outlet. "The number of striking cleaners is increasing every day."
The Dutch janitors' campaign website is, understandably, in Dutch, so we've taken the liberty to supply you with the Google-Translated link. You can check it out for yourself here.
