Unions members Get Ready to Turn Out the Vote in the Upcoming Primary Elections

Harrisburg, PA - Yesterday, the hardworking members of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in Pennsylvania announced their endorsement of Senator Arlen Specter in the 2010 Democratic Primary.

"SEIU fights for its members so we have a natural kinship with Senator Specter who is well known as a fighter for Pennsylvania," said Eileen Connelly, Executive Director for the SEIU PA State Council. "He's been there for us and now we are proud to be here for him. We have close to 100,000 SEIU members in PA and we are ready to play our part in making sure Senator Specter stays in the US Senate so he can keep working on behalf of Pennsylvania families".

Neal Bisno, President of SEIU Healthcare PA representing 22,000 healthcare workers across the State said: "Senator Specter's key vote for the Economic Recovery Act has provided billions for Pennsylvania. Those funds have helped keep thousands of our members on the job and thus able to help our communities care for those in need."

"Senator Specter has long championed issues important to Pennsylvania's working families. He's voted 20 times to raise the minimum wage and has supported continued unemployment compensation for those in need," said Gabe Morgan, SEIU Local 32BJ Western PA Director representing building service workers and school employees.

"SEIU is a political powerhouse and their endorsement along with their grassroots assistance will be a big boost to my Democratic primary campaign. Thank you very much," said Specter.

The fastest-growing union in North America, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and its 2.2 million members are uniting workers to improve their lives and the services they provide. The Pennsylvania SEIU State Council represents nearly 100,000 members statewide in the areas of health care, public services, building services and hospitality. It is the fastest-growing union in the state.
