GritTV was on the ground documenting the mobilization that took place behind SEIU Local 32BJ's negotiations with the New York Realty Association Board recently, as the apartment building service workers fought for a new contract that would preserve benefits and allow them to make a livable wage.
It's well worth watching--check it out here:
The threat of a strike by 30,000 doormen, porters, janitors and building supervisors shined a bright light on a largely "invisible" labor force that keep a major city like NYC running.
Instead of walking off the job, 30,000 32BJ members ended up with a four-year contract that includes a significant wage increases and no change in benefits--a big win for the building service workers and their families.
