CALIFORNIA: Dismal, rainy weather didn't deter thousands of people from gathering to protest against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's drastic proposed cuts to public service programs.

Culminating a 365-mile, 48-day "March for California's Future," members of SEIU 721 and ULTCW joined a diverse coalition of labor, business, education and faith groups to rally in front of the Sacramento State Capitol Building.
Earlier in the morning, dozens of ULTCW members paid visits to the offices of California state legislators to share their personal stories about the need to keep in-home care funded. View photos of the rally in Sacramento and lobby day.

ILLINOIS: Rally-goers: "Show some spine, show some guts!"
In Illinois, the Responsible Budget Coalition's "Save Our State" rally in Springfield, IL brought together thousands of union members, health care providers, teachers, students, state workers and activists in support of a sustainable solution to the state budget crisis.

Crying "Raise our taxes!" and "Show some guts!", an estimated 15,000 people marched --which would appear to make it the largest Capitol protest since the Equal Rights Amendment crowds a quarter-century ago.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow even referenced the "Save Our State" rally on her show last night, discussing the importance of the public services--like home care--that state and federal governments provide.
She makes a good point:
