On Sunday April 25th, Anna Burger joined an all-star lineup on the National Mall to commemorate Earth Day and challenge people to step up efforts to save the planet. More than 100,000 braved the threat of thunderstorms yesterday to attend the annual Earth Day gathering, which included performances by Sting, John Legend, The Roots, Joss Stone, and Mavis Staples.
"The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time," said SEIU's Burger at the rally. "And inaction is unacceptable because we know that the health of our planet and the health of our economy are intertwined." She described how SEIU members are leading the way in greening the economy by:
- creating training programs to reduce waste,
- save energy and
- make green cleaning part of contract negotiations.
