SEIU District 1199 organizes food drive for laid-off KDMC hospital workers

This weekend, SEIU 1199 members in West Virginia organized a food bank for laid-off workers at Kings Daughter Medical Center (KDMC). A local news report on the union member-to-member food drive interviewed SEIU Executive Board member Pam Booth from Cabell-Huntington Hospital, as well as KDMC workers affected by the lay-offs. Watch below:

KDMC claims that the mass layoffs over the last month were a last resort, and necessary due to financial shortfalls of the hospital. However, a closer look at the accounting books of KDMC by SEIU District 1199 shows that the hospital is now--and will continue to be--profitable. The union plans to file charges with the National Labor Relations Board, adding to current charges already filed against KDMC for unfair labor practices against employees.
