Less than 48 hours after a U.S. Court District Court Judge blocked certain provisions of Arizona's new anti-immigration law SB1070, the state of Arizona was already taking legal action to protest the decision. Gov. Jan Brewer wasted no time filing a second motion for an expedited appeal to the Ninth Circuit asking for the order to be lifted. This could speed up court proceedings to begin oral arguments as soon as the second week in September.
I don't know about you, but a month and a half without racial profiling in Arizona doesn't seem like nearly long enough.
There are already seven lawsuits challenging SB1070 , as well the constitutional protections the legislation's many critics argue it violates. SEIU is a leading plaintiff in one of these seven lawsuits, charging that SB1070 violates the First Amendment and interferes with federal law and is therefore unenforceable.
