Questionable billing by nursing homes exposed in Government report

Nursinghomecare.jpgIn a trend first picked up on by SEIU, a new report by the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services found that between 2006 and 2008, nursing homes may have falsified patient records and overcharged Medicare by tens of millions of dollars each year.

In March 2010, SEIU drew attention to possible cases of Medicare fraud by the California-based nursing home company North American Health Care (NAHC), which operates 35 nursing homes in four states. The Washington Post later confirmed SEIU's research that NAHC may be overcharging Medicare by tens of millions of dollars each year.
