Dozens of caregivers from SEIU Healthcare 775NW joined with child care providers from SEIU Local 925, members of AARP, the Community Health Network, the Statewide Poverty Action Network and other advocates on Monday to deliver 28,000 signed petitions and postcards to Washington State Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown and House Speaker Frank Chopp on the first day of the 2011 Legislative Session.

Working with the Our Economic Future coalition, members called for more scrutiny of tax subsidies, exemptions, and loopholes and asked the legislature to first cut unjustified tax loopholes and subsidies before cutting further into education and healthcare.

The petitions were signed by people like Deborah Osborn, a home care worker from Tacoma, Washington and others throughout the state who support closing corporate tax loopholes as a way of generating more revenue instead of cutting further into education and healthcare. Deborah, a member of SEIU Healthcare 775NW, is particularly concerned about how the cuts to care will impact her client, who has Down's syndrome.
