As I talk to our members from across the country, they've shared some powerful stories of how the Affordable Care Act is helping them live healthier lives.

One such story came from Mylane Hastings, an SEIU-UHW member who works as a Respiratory Therapist at CHW Mercy San Juan Medical Center.

"I have high blood pressure, I'm African American, and I'm a woman. Each of those is a 'pre-existing condition' according to most health insurers," said Mylane.

Mylane is one of more than 129 million Americans with chronic illnesses and pre-existing conditions. But thanks to the new healthcare law, Mylane will never again be unable to find coverage after 2014, nor will insurance companies be allowed to deny her coverage.
