La'Kasha Hines, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, made us proud today as she spoke to the crowd of more than one thousand union members and pro-worker supporters in Washington, DC:
"Collective bargaining means more to me than just wages, it means a voice on the job so I can give the best patient care.
"Because of collective bargaining, I've been able to go to our state capitol and talk to policy makers about getting needed funding for nursing homes in my state -- which helps our seniors, veterans and disabled people in Pennsylvania."

Our SEIU sister spoke boldly about what her contract means to advocate for her nursing home patients--sentiments shared by the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who urged supporters in his day to be concerned for one another, because "either we go up together, or we go down together."
Dr. King knew that unless many of us acted together, unless we treated an injury to one as an injury to all, that workers could be attacked a few at a time until no one had the strength to stand.
So on April 4th as we remember Martin Luther King Jr--a great man who stood firm for justice--we're showing a united movement of local and national activists committed to fighting for the causes Dr. King lived and died for.
