Judy Junor, a Member of Legislative Assembly in Saskatoon Eastview, recently walked a day in the shoes of Steve Olson, an SEIU-West member and continuing care aide. Junor shadowed Olson during his workday at Cheshire Homes, a residential care home in Saskatoon for physically disabled adults.
"People should know that the caregivers who keep places like Cheshire running and keep people who are in Cheshire happy and productive and connected to the world -- they're so important," said Junor of the experience. "Not everyone gets an opportunity to do this, and I would encourage other elected officials to participate. It was a real privilege."
SEIU's "Walk a Day in My Shoes" campaign first launched during the 2008 campaign as a way to allow elected officials to experience firsthand what life is like for working people. More details on Steve and Judy's Walk-A-Day here.
