SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania is a progressive union of 23,000 health care workers across Pennsylvania. Our members work in nursing homes, hospitals, state institutions and as home health care aides. Position Description

The Campaign Communications Specialist develops effective campaign messages and communications tools -- leaflets, earned and paid media, brochures, newsletters and web content -- in support of health care workers’ campaigns.

The individual in this position will work with our current members to win the highest possible standards in their union contracts, and to advocate for public policies that improve the lives of health care workers and the quality of care for our patients. This position is supervised by the Communications Director and works directly with campaign leaders, organizers, and other staff to develop and implement effective communications strategies and win our campaigns. This position includes a heavy emphasis on building and maintaining positive coverage in new and traditional media sources.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop effective core messaging for campaigns in consultation with campaign staff.
  • Articulates, orally and in-writing, effective messages to a variety of audiences, including unorganized workers, existing members, the media and the general public.
  • Produces worksite and community leaflets, newsletters, brochures, internet-based content, and etc.
  • Plans and coordinates media events including training and preparing workers to be effective spokespersons.
  • Generates earned media including articles, op-eds, and letters to the editor.
  • Arranges for or does photography at public campaign events.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience working in communications in a campaign environment.
  • Excellent writing and oral communications skills.
  • Basic design skills. Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital photography and related software.
  • A driver's license and fully-insured car.
  • An ability to travel throughout PA.
  • An ability to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field preferred.
  • Fluency in languages beyond English is a plus.
Compensation: Salary range - depends on experience. Full benefit package including healthcare, pension, 401(k), etc.
