Angela Hughson, Family Childcare Provider, Austin, MN #default

“I always enjoyed taking care of little children. I went to a 2 year college in the Human Service Program with the intention of doing child care. After being in a child care center I wanted to do it on my own. I started before I even had my own children. Sometimes I wonder why I am still doing it, but looking at my families and the children in my care, they are dear to my heart. I care about these kids like I care about my own. The best part of my job is getting to raise my own kids and watch the other children grown and being a part of each one of my day care children and families’ lives.”

“I would like to see funding for early childhood be raised instead of taken away. Don’t cut from the food programs which allow us to feed health means to our children. If significant cuts go to the food program, I would end up raising my rates to cover the food cost or make the parents provide meals for their children which would mean some kids would not have a well-balanced meal at all.”

“Budget cuts impact everyone negatively. Families need us to look after their children while they are at work and they need to know they are in a safe, caring and loving environment. If parents don’t work, their bills don’t get paid and they don’t have an income, where else could they turn - the welfare system. These children are our future and deserve to grow up in a good environment. These are also the kids that will be taking care of us someday.”
