Protecting Fair Union Elections In The Face Of Opposition #nlrb

If you're reading this post on the SEIU.org Blog, you may already be aware of this unfortunate labor truth: The current union election system fails to protect the free choice of too many Americans who want to have a voice at work.

Happily, a new NLRB rule to go into effect on April 30th seeks to reform and streamline the election process; increase transparency and end incentives for supercilious challenges brought into the fold simply to delay the opportunity for workers to cast their votes.

Unhappily, an upcoming Senate vote puts this NLRB rule at risk--making this an issue of great importance to all workers. SEIU sent out the following advocacy email, which you can read after the fold.

Ask your Senator to stand with workers and the NLRB

Members of the corporate right wing of the Republican Party in Congress have introduced a Resolution of Disapproval in the Senate aimed at blocking a commonsense National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) rule change impacting union elections.

This rule, effective April 30, will make it harder for corporations and their lawyers to manufacture frivolous litigation and drag out the election process for months, and sometimes years, hoping the workers will give up and never get to vote on whether they want a union.

The Senate is expected to vote on the Resolution on Tuesday, April 24.

It is vitally important that your Senator votes "NO" on this resolution so workers will not have to face unfair delays in the NLRB election process. Please contact your Senator today.

We've seen over and over again that anti-worker Republicans are intent on overturning the foundation of our nation's labor laws - both at the federal and state level. Without reason, they seek to vilify public workers, restrict or eliminate collective bargaining rights for both private and public sector workers and move anti-worker legislation that would take away workers' voices on the job.

The real motive behind these attacks is to create a country without unions--where nobody is left to stand up for workers when Wall Street executives outsource jobs or cut workers' wages and benefits in search of higher profits.

Click here to ask your Senator to vote "NO" on this anti-worker resolutin.

During a time of dramatic income inequality and persistent unemployment, these Members of Congress should be focused on creating good jobs, not attacking hard working Americans trying to join together to make a better life for their families and their communities.

Please take a moment to urge your Senator to VOTE "NO" on the Resolution of Disapproval aimed at blocking an important step forward for workers in our country.
