SEIU healthcare workers, doctors, and healthcare advocates embarked this past weekend on a historic 12-day Patients Over Politics Bus Tour. Kicking off just before the Republican National Convention (RNC) near Tampa, Fla.; the Doctors for America-led tour is currently making its way through Florida and South Carolina before finishing during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Charlotte, NC.
The group's message: "Stop messing with health care reform because people's lives are at stake." Select stops along the route will feature declaration deliveries, where doctors and patients will present a "Declaration to America's Politicians" signed by thousands of citizens in all 50 states that reads: "We, the undersigned, demand our politicians put patients over politics. We must work together to build on the Affordable Care Act with further reforms and commit to a future where everyone can get health care when they need it."
The "Patients Over Politics Bus Tour" will make stops in Atlanta and Columbia, S.C. and several other cities between Tampa and Charlotte. It will features health screenings, rallies, town halls and community events--including a September 2nd education forum with SEIU Healthcare's own Dr. L. Toni Lewis.
