At almost 4 weeks until the election, we are building momentum with a major milestone in our field program.
We knocked our 1 millionth general public door!
We knocked the 1 millionth general public door in our presidential program on Saturday, Oct. 1.
The SEIU field program is having a huge impact; on Saturday alone we knocked on 93,201 doors and to date, we have knocked on 1,169,719 general public doors. Our members are so excited! We were able to meet this milestone because of members like Steven Hunley, a pastor and school bus driver from Local 73, who talks about why he wanted to get involved in the election here.
And there is still more work to be done! We need to continue to talk to voters on the door, on the phones and at our workplaces to make sure we elect legislators who will protect the right of everyone to vote.
This great work wouldn't be possible without our members and staff in the field. We are also running significant volunteer programs in a number of down-ballot states.
We've had such a strong week, we need to keep up the pace over the next 32 days. We have a choice between President Obama, who will continue to fight for our issues, and Mitt Romney, who no matter how much he tries to backpedal from the remarks he made, continues to write off nearly half of Americans as victims and people he doesn't care about. We need to continue to fight to re-elect President Obama, who will represent all Americans. It is more important than ever that we keep up our ground game -- knocking on doors, making calls and talking to voters about the clear choice this election.
I will be in Virginia knocking on doors tomorrow with President Mary Kay Henry and EVP Eileen Kirlin. Where will you be? Follow this link to join us: http://action.seiu.org/99gov
