SEIU's Henry: Nationwide Demonstrations--Including Fight for $15" Strikes Thursday--Signal Mounting Community-Based Bid to Restore Justice in All Forms"

Working Families, Immigrants, Communities of Color Fighting for an America that Works for Everyone

WASHINGTON-- Airport and home care workers will strike Thursday alongside fast-food workers across the country in a growing movement for a living wage known as the Fight for $15." SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry issued the following statement in support of national demonstrations aimed at fighting to fix America's broken economic, immigration and criminal justice systems:

"Millions of working men and women across this country--white, black and brown--have stood up and stood out together, mounting their offense against extremism and inequality. Families, co-workers and communities are fighting for justice on all fronts, in the workplace and in streets, and are poised to take their fight all the way to the ballot box in 2016.

"From McDonald's and Walmart parking lots to the streets of Ferguson and New York, nationwide, communities are rising up--through actions, strikes and protests--crying out because they believe that a better path forward is possible.

"The economy--and our country--are out of balance because so many people are trying to raise families on service sector paychecks but are getting crushed as corporations use their power to push down the wage floor.

"The Fight for $15 movement is growing as more Americans living on the brink decide to stick together to fight for better pay and an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few."
