SEIU’s Sáenz: Revised Executive Order is more of the same anti-immigrant policy, anti-American values

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to President Trump’s revised Executive Order on immigration that targets Muslims and refugees, SEIU International Executive Vice President and iAmerica Action President Rocio Sáenz issued the following statement:

“Americans will not be fooled. It is clear that President Trump is repackaging just another version of the same discriminatory and hateful executive order that courts around the country rejected over and over again last month. Our nation stands for the values of democracy, diversity and religious freedom. Americans understand that this is not who we are.

“President Trump’s ban impacts individuals who want to contribute to this great country, taking care of our families by becoming doctors, creating new technologies to improve our lives, and doing good for our country. It impacts individuals who followed the rules and were in the midst of applying to come to America but whose applications had not yet been approved.

"President Trump's executive orders scapegoat and criminalize immigrants who work hard to provide the best life possible for their families. Immigrants strengthen our economy by creating millions of jobs every year, running almost a fifth of the small businesses across America. They do the work that our families need and that drives our economy, like caring for our children, the sick and the elderly, and securing and cleaning our offices and airports.

“SEIU vows to fight for our nation’s soul – and we won’t stop until these hateful policies are stopped. Just like we saw thousands of people – including SEIU members – join spontaneous protests at airports across America, we won’t back down. We are here to stay.”
