SEIU’s Henry: Our democracy is too important for any individual to be above the law

WASHINGTON – Service Employees International Union (SEIU) International President Mary Kay Henry released the following statement after the U.S. House voted in favor of two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump:

“No matter where you’re from, what you look like or what you do for a living, all Americans can agree that our democracy is too important for any individual to be above the law, including the nation’s president.

“SEIU supports U.S. House leaders who took the necessary step of voting to impeach President Trump in order to uphold the integrity of our nation’s laws. The Judiciary and Intelligence committee hearings revealed that President Trump abused the trust and authority given to him when he put his own political interests ahead of our country.

“Working families are fed up with a rigged system that allows both self-interested politicians and their corporate allies to behave badly. Enough is enough. It’s time for leaders in all levels of government to do their part to ensure our democracy and economy works for every person in this country.”
