The John Geagan Scholarship is in honor of SEIU's long-time organizing director during the 1970s and 1980s and is for applicants who want to pursue a college degree in labor studies. The scholarship is for $5,000 to be expended over a 24-month period ($2,500 a year). This scholarship can be used in any labor studies program where college credit is awarded. This includes four-year and two-year institutions, labor studies centers, certificate and online programs--as long as college credit will be earned toward a bachelor's or associate degree in labor studies.
» Eligibility Criteria:
The John Geagan Scholarship is open to SEIU members or their children or SEIU local union staff; priority will be given to those applicants who are not served by traditional education institutions-- typically adults who have been in the workforce and have decided to go, or return to, college. This scholarship allows students to pursue a degree while continuing to work.
