Building Stronger Communities

The SEIU Community Strength Resource Center was launched in 2005 to reach out to diverse groups and organizations so that we can build unity on common social and economic interests.

Working families cannot thrive and win on issues such as health care, education, and other key issues unless we link "labor" issues and "community" issues and help build a larger movement that fights not only for union members but for the broader community.

To achieve this, Community Strength is collaborating with a wide range of community allies, organizations, and arts and cultural organizers ranging from the Creative Coalition to the NAACP, from the League of Young Voters to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.

Nationally and in key markets, we are building alliances and coalitions around issues such as immigration reform, voting rights, media reform, and raising wages and standards for those workers who are hit hardest by the global economy-women and workers of color.

At the same time, we are working to help members and our local unions identify and change patterns of racism and other imbalances of power that act as barriers to full participation, unity, and equity within our union.
