Dave Regan

INTERNATIONAL EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

Exeuctive Vice President Dave Regan at the 2008 ConventionDave Regan is an executive vice president of the 2.1 million-member Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the fastest growing union in North America. Newly elected by his peers to serve as a top ranking official of the union at the 2008 National Convention, Regan is a committed political and healthcare reform activist with nearly 20 years of leadership experience in the labor movement. In his new role, Regan is responsible for leading and centering SEIU's work in the field with state councils and coordinating cross-divisional work in implementing field programs. He will also oversee the planning, evaluating, budgeting, training, and other aspects of the union's organizing.

For the last eight years, Regan served as president of the SEIU District 1199, a three-state local representing over 34,000 members in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. Under his steady leadership and devoted focus on organizing District 1199's membership grew from 13,000 to more than 34,000 working men and women. Regan also oversaw the administration of District 1199's 200 collective bargaining agreements with employers throughout its three state region, representing hospitals, nursing homes, community mental health agencies, homecare and other related services as well as public sector employees. As part of the SEIU Health Care Division Steering Committee, Regan contributes to the planning and executing the Union's strategic work within the Health Care Division including organizing, bargaining, and politics across the United States.

A longtime activist in SEIU's national political operations and a member of the Ohio Democratic Party's Executive Board, Regan is dedicated to ensuring that all SEIU members have a voice in their elected government. Since the union's presidential endorsement in February, Regan has been a leading catalyst in SEIU members' political involvement in the 2008 cycle and campaign to ensure Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee. In Ohio alone, part of District 1199, 1,000 SEIU members and staff went door-to-door for Obama and made nearly 700,000 phone calls. In May 2008, Regan was selected as a Democratic Party superdelegate.

A passionate advocate for quality, affordable healthcare, Regan has been an active spokesperson in the union's HCR ManorCare campaign to improve care and ensure safe staff-to-patient ratios in nursing homes owned by the Carlyle Group. His involvement with coalitions of nursing home workers, patient advocates, and elected and community leaders in states where ManorCare operates has helped make strides in SEIU's national grassroots efforts to protect seniors, taxpayers, and workers who are being put at risk in private equity takeover deals.

Regan's experience includes serving as a vice president on the union's International Executive Board and on SEIU's Future of the Local Union Committee, a committee that works to increase the growth of SEIU Locals and deepen member engagement in union-wide strategies to achieve a better future for all working people. He has also chaired SEIU's National Nursing Home Unity Council in recent years.

Regan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. He and his wife Lori Knicely reside in Washington, DC, with their two daughters, Skylar and Madeleine.
