El Local 32BJ de SEIU representa a más de 120,000 trabajadores de servicio a la propiedad: oficiales de seguridad; limpiadores de ventanas y oficinas, limpiadores de escuelas, superintendentes de edificios de apartamentos, porteros y trabajadores de mantenimiento, trabajadores de servicio de alimentos y otros trabajadores de servicios en Washington, DC, Nueva York, Pensilvania, Maryland y otros cinco estados de la costa Este. Executive Vice President

In January 2012, Valarie Long was elected Executive Vice President of the 2.1 million-member Service Employees International Union (SEIU) by the union's International Executive Board (IEB). Prior to being elected Executive Vice President of SEIU, Long served as a leader at two SEIU locals and as an International Vice President. Valarie leads the union's Property Services division, representing more than 400,000 janitors, security guards and maintenance workers across the United States and Canada. In her role, Long is the primary architect of the union's strategic vision to help thousands of property services workers unite their strength to improve their jobs and their communities.

A 28 year veteran of the labor movement, Long has a long-standing commitment to lifting the lives of low-wage service workers, especially in communities of color. As president of SEIU Local 82 (which later merged with SEIU 32BJ), Long led - and won - a 10-year fight to bring better wages and respect on the job for thousands of property service workers in Washington, D.C. as part of SEIU's Justice for Janitors campaign. Following her tenure at Local 82, Long served as Vice President of Local SEIU 32BJ, the largest property services union in the country.

Local SEIU 32BJ represents more than 120,000 property service workers - security officers; window and office cleaners; school cleaners , apartment building superintendents, doormen, porters and maintenance workers; food service workers and other service workers in Washington, DC, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and five other states on the east coast. At 32BJ, Valarie directed operations for the union's multi-state region, including, New Jersey, the Capital Area District (Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia), Pennsylvania and Delaware.

From 2007 to 2008, Long served as the Director of SEIU's Property Services Division. Under her leadership, the union's national campaign to organize security guards achieved unprecedented gains for more than 25,000 workers in nine major cities. Beyond her role as director of the Property Services Division, Valarie has worked with SEIU locals across every division and led SEIU's efforts, in coalition with UNI (the Property Service Global Union), to successfully reach a historic global agreement with G4S/Wackenhut - one of the largest security providers in the world. Long remains active organizing workers across the globe, currently serving as a Delegate and Steering Committee member of UNI's Property Service Section.
