A Vision for the Future

In the future envisioned by the Institute for Change, every person with a job earns a living wage, all children get a good education and a chance to develop, and families across the social and economic spectrum are able to ensure the health and well-being of their old and young alike.
Only continuous strategic change can put progressive leaders and organizations in a position to counteract these social forces and bring about a more inclusive and just society.
| “Consider the lessons the progressive movement has to learn from the most successful of the evangelical churches. Their leaders routinely pay careful attention to new and old members, address the whole person, maintain a low threshold for entry into the organization, assiduously remove barriers to engagement in its work, encourage the formation of diverse ‘communities’ within the larger organization, and cultivate the increased investment and leadership of members over time. What union or progressive member organization can make that claim?” —Larry McNeil, Institute Director and Faculty Member |
| “SEIU’s Institute for Change has become a place where union leaders have the time, space, and intellectual environment to imagine a totally different kind of union, one at the center of a progressive movement that can build a permanent progressive majority.” —Anna Burger, International Secretary-Treasurer, Service Employees International Union, Chair, Change To Win |
