"I used to think elections were like the weather. They just passed you by. Then I saw that politics could help workers like me win a living wage. Now I talk with my co-workers and tell them that every vote counts. The fact the last election was so close made my point for me.”

Member Political Organizers (MPOs) carry the vision of a better society into our workplaces, into our communities and onto the campaign trail by helping to elect leaders who get results on health care, retirement security, education and other issues that matter to ordinary Americans.

Across the country, MPOs have made the winning difference in tight races at all levels of government, most recently changing the leadership of Congress and electing eight new pro-worker governors (more on that).

During the 2005 election, MPOs worked hard to defeat anti-worker ballot initiatives in California and elect governors in Virginia and New Jersey with proven records on the issues that matter most to working families(more on that).

During the 2004 election, more than 20,000 MPOs dedicated their time to educating their coworkers and working families in their communities about the candidates' records on the issues at stake. MPOs also registered hundreds of thousands of voters and made sure they got to the polls on Election Day.

We need to build upon this work to elect candidates who will stand up for our families.

You can do your part by contacting your local union and volunteering to become a member political organizer. Together, we can make politicians listen - and take action - on issues like health care, education, and retirement security. More »
