SEIU's Saenz: House finally votes on clean DHS funding bill; people win over politics

WASHINGTON, D.C.- In response to Tuesday's passage of a clean funding bill for the.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS),EIU International Executive Vice President Rocio Saenz issued the following statement:

When families unite, they win. [Tuesday's] vote on a clean bill for Department of Homeland Security funding exemplifies the victory that Latino, immigrant and working families across the nation are fighting toward in 2016. People will win over politics. We are not the enemy, and we will remember who stood with our families and who didn't at the ballot box in 2016./p>

"Republican leadership learned how unpopular its strategy of playing partisan games at the risk of our national security was. It put families in jeopardy, and we know that we can fight and beat back their gamesmanship, from now through 2016./p>

"Thousands of immigrants and their supporters spoke up and made their voices heard during the past few weeks, and together we made a difference./p>

"As we get closer to the 2016 elections, it's time for the Republican leadership to understand that Latino voters, immigrant families and working people everywhere are watching to see who supports commonsense immigration policies and who is willing to separate our families and cause much pain and hardship."
